About GIYS

The Gibson Island Yacht Squadron is open to members of the Gibson Island Club. It provides many opportunities for cruising under power and sail, racing, sailing instruction, and related social activities. Gibson Island Harbor facilities include a boathouse and showers, moorings, slips, and a full service yacht yard. Tender service is available from May through October.

The Gibson Island Yacht Squadron began as the Water Committee of the Gibson Island Club in 1921. Two years later it formed the first Star fleet on the Chesapeake Bay. Over the years, it has sponsored a number of different races for cruising yachts and world championships in both Stars and J22s. The squadron is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association. It is active in PHRF, junior sailing, and one design racing. The 2012 GIYS Junior Regatta drew 135 entries.
