2012 Rockfish Rodeo

A cloudy April 28th ushered in the 9th Annual Rock Fish Rodeo at the GIYS. Umbrellas in chartreuse and white adored with parachutes, sporting sassy shad as long as 12” hit the 57* waters of the Bay at 5am or shortly thereafter.

Fishing was a little slow but the rain held off until the dock side weigh in party was in full swing. Highlights included: Dave Butler’s crew aboard his Parker finally taking first place with a 41 1/8” Rock after all 9 years in the competition.

The largest boat to ever compete in Rodeo history was Bruce Davis’ 65’ Hatteras Grand B which off loaded a second place fish. The Gable crew aboard the Reel Character came in with a 2012 contest high 6 keeper Rock, one of which took third place. Commodore Dan Smeragliulo did a great job as celebrity weigh master!
